“The method must meet the concept. From here, the visuals will emerge.” - King David

Abstraction is distillation, therefore I distill my work into 3 main components when people ask how to begin dissecting what they are seeing. Though there are many paths to understanding and deeper questioning, this is a helpful trinity: (1) think of the lush saturations of natural color offered by the Caribbean, where sensory overload can be as beautiful and shocking as the not-too-distant underlying history therein; (2) think of the grit, texture, and heavy artificial values of the New York City urban environment, where sensory overload mirrors the commonplaces of cultural overlap or extreme wealth/poverty; (3) think of the warm, radiant light of the South of France, a light that the Impressionists infused into their painting and imparted to the following Abstract Masters, changing the course of Art forever.

Use any or all of these Elements, insofar as you can adequately wield them, as keys to access the Doors of Perception my works offer.

Enjoy, and remember that no matter how much time you think has been spent, “you’ve only just started looking!” - John Gasparach, of The Leo Marchutz School of Painting and Drawing
